Look what sprouted at the nursery!

Just a little highlight on some of the plants showing off their color during my walkabout this morning at the nursery!

Frustrated growing peonies? Well this variety doesn’t require a chill to rebloom the following year and makes blooms bigger then my hand!!!

Contrasting the frosty blue foliage is a spectacular explosion of pinks and white... it’s.... magical. ;)

Even at this young stage, this year you will be able to enjoy your first harvest of artichokes!!!

Today’s walkthrough, I noticed a lot of our shade plants are looking fantastic!

This evergreen shade loving shrub makes some striking red foliage on its new growth and also makes some stunning white flowers that opens up like a string of pearls.... 

 Hostas!!!

The Hostas are waking up from their winter slumber and in a week they pushed up out of the dirt and love being in a space with full shade to morning sun exposure. Don’t forget to put some organic slug bait on them!!!

Also known as the Shrimp plant, gets name because it’s peculiar blooms look likes prawns... but this plant does really well in morning sun or if your on the coast, I’ve seen it flourish in full sun on the coast.

Adding a little splash of purple to your garden!

Hey everyone, just did a little walk about, through the nursery and notice ALOT of purple flowers this morning, here’s a little taste on what is looking great at the nursery!

This trailing petunia will cascade over edges of containers or spread across the ground and looks as though the cosmos is dotted across the flower’s face, giving you some amazing blooms day and night!

This wisteria in our garden blooms up to three times in a single year here! It also has a wonderful scent that delicately lofts through the nursery!

Often called a Blue Hibiscus, it doesn’t hail from Hawaii but in fact, Southern and western Austrailia.   This selection was taken out of the UC Santa Cruz Arboretum, hence the name.

This Tanzanian native is a great way to bring a little color indoors.

Things are heating up at the nursery!

This morning during my walk of the nursery found two more plants that caught my eye!  I love this time of the year, so many things to take photos of, it’s so hard to decide what to showcase!

This South American native flourishes her and blooms pretty much all year long. It doesn’t require much water and the hummingbirds love stopping by to fuel up here!!!

These fist-sized blooms are striking and despite numerous attempts, my camera could capture the color correctly, as it’s much more reddish when seen in person!!!

Spring has sprung! Sorry for the lack of updates over here, but we have been busy getting ready for the beautiful weather! 

Just a heads up we will close early today at 3:00 pm, but if anyone was looking for something to do and see, a visit to the nursery isn’t a bad idea!!!

No it’s not an April fools day joke, Our annual buy three get one free deal on bags of G&B harvest supreme and planting mix has returned! It’s a great way to start your garden right this season!!!

A little taste of the tropics...

High temperatures, humid days and thunderstorms .. the last couple of days sure was quite irregular.  And while we may have been a tad uncomfortable the plants sure didn't!!

This ruffled hibiscus is stunning. Despite the picture I couldn't get to color (on numerous attempts)  to display properly. It's a beautiful warm orange with hints of red running through it. Probably best to just plant it and admire it!

This robust grower makes beautiful single blue flowers with magenta centers and while it can grow to 6' it remains compact and full allowing you to trim it to practically any height!!!

Believe it or not this hibiscus has done quite eye catching pink to cream variegation on the bronze foliage, it can make a maroon bloom but the main appeal is the color of the leaves!!!

This rare native from Argentina is a relative to the amaryllis and makes some brilliant blood red flowers!

Sorry our updates lately have been often as an eclipse... but for those that couldn't get away... found a few things blooming despite today's "lack" of sun!

A taste of the tropics...

You wouldn't believe what we came across this week!  We got our hands on four varieties of Plumeria. (I'll post when those start to bud up!) This tropical plant makes some amazing fragrant blooms and the smells can transport you to far away lands! Come on by and check these out they won't last long as I've been looking for them for a long, long time! -Chris

Happy 47th Earth Day!

Did you the know the first earth day was officially created in 1970, to raise awareness public awareness about the planet's environment and pollution. This was a response from seeing the devastating damage from an oil spill in Santa Barbara the year prior.

Well 2 days into what is offically Spring, the weather has started to clear up, plants continue to set flowers and the bees have started to get back to work after their winter break!

This New Zealand native makes beautiful arching, flower clusters that cascade during the spring and despite its delicate looking fern shaped leaves, this plant will tolerate being in full sun on the coast, but if you are further inland, it will prefer half day sun.

One of my favorite plants that signals the arrival of spring, this anemones are a fantastic way to add a burst of color to your shady parts of the garden!!!

41 years ago today, George, the founder of Golden Nursery, opened the doors for the first time! We wanted to thank everyone for their love and support over the years and for making everyday a fun and exciting experience for us!

Feels like spring came, just in time with the arrival of the lunar new year!

Tangerines and oranges are beloved during this time of year, because tangerines in Chinese sounds similar to "luck" and oranges sounds similar to "wealth".
